Will my junior get in?

The ID is on your junior's USTA account. We look up their published standing, read it against this tournament's entry count and its selection rule, and tell you where that leaves them. We never ask for a name and USTA never sends us one.

What it is worth

Points run off the round reached, not the draw size: up to 300 ranking points for winning it.

This is a MIXED TEAM COLLEGE FORMAT EVENT

**PLAYERS REGISTER AS AN INDIVIDUAL - and are assigned to a TEAM **

What is College Format?

College format includes singles and mixed or same gender doubles. Teams of 8 players (4 boys/4 girls) are created by waterfalling players using World Tennis Number (WTN). All players will play singles and doubles. Doubles pairings and number of doubles matches played may vary based on the size of the team and the overall number of registrants.

Selection Process: The event will be limited to 16 boys and 16 girls based on most recent WTN. Limited to 32 (4 teams of 8) but exact distribution will be determined by the number of registrants. With a full draw, players will play up to 3 singles and 3 doubles matches. We MUST HAVE a MINIMUM of 12 Boys and 12 Girls for the event to run. If draws are not full we will maximize match play with the numbers we have! Accepted players will be waterfalled onto teams based on each player’s most recent WTN. "Waterfall" is a method of distributing players so that each team is of similar overall strength. Player positions will also be based on WTN.

Match format singles: Two short sets to 4, 7-point match tiebreak at one set all; Ad-scoring

Match format doubles: One standard tiebreak set to 6, 7-point tiebreak at 6 games all; no-ad scoring

Draw Format: Round Robin

Players may be asked to go right from playing singles to doubles, or vice versa, however, there will also be breaks in the schedule built-in.

Players MUST be prepared to participate each day, and detailed schedules will be shared as soon as possible.

SPORTSMANSHIP EXPECTATIONS

Good sportsmanship is expected. This is a team event and therefore a commitment to play the tournament in its entirety. Players MUST be prepared to participate all days of the tournament.

Replacement of Withdrawing Players After the Draw is Published

The waterfall should not be re-done if a player withdraws. The tournament will replace a player who withdraws, is defaulted, or is otherwise removed from the draw after the waterfall is done, but before the player’s first match with next highest ranked remaining alternate for the division. If the withdrawal is by the player waterfalled into the #1 position on a team, the lower-waterfalled player on the team will be moved into the #1 position and the alternate will take the #2 position, etc.

During-Tournament Alternate Procedure if Team Unable to Field Full Roster

If at any time a player at the tournament is unable to compete in one or more matches, the tournament director will work to find an alternate to substitute in for the player. If an alternate substitutes in for one or more matches, the alternate will play in the singles and/or doubles lineups in the last position and all other players or teams will move up a position. The matches played will count toward the team score and will count for junior national ranking. In singles, if an alternate is not found and a default occurs in the #1 position, the default will occur in the #2 singles position and the #2 players will move up a position. In doubles, if an alternate is not found and a default occurs in, the default will occur in the last doubles position and all other teams will move up a position. A player, for reasons of illness, injury or personal circumstances, or default due to lateness, who does not play a match, is eligible to play another match on the same day and on a subsequent day. A player who is defaulted for reasons other than lateness is not permitted to play in a subsequent match.

How Are Points Calculated?

Players earn points based on individual wins in accordance with their position. Even if a team does not advance in the draw, players receive points for any singles and doubles matches won.

If you have technical difficulties or are unable to register with a partner, please contact the tournament director before the entry deadline has passed.

Questions parents ask

Will my junior get in?

No draw is full yet. Selection runs off the ranking list when entries close, and it runs differently at different levels, so whether a junior gets in depends on where they sit in this field. Add their USTA ID and we will tell you.

What is a Level 5?

A district-level event. Bigger draws, ranking matters for selection, points per win are higher than Level 6. Points run off the round reached, not the draw size: up to 300 ranking points for winning it.

When do we know?

Selections post after entries close (Thu, Oct 1, 5:59pm EDT). Draws usually post the week of the tournament. Text Coach Ace and we will tell you the moment either one lands.
