FDT October Level 6 Junior Open

This FDT 12/14/16/18 L6 is a singles round robin tournament. It may be held at multiple sites, including: Willow Glen MS/HS, Piedmont Hills HS and/or Mt. Pleasant HS in SJ. It is important you go to the correct courts as delay penalites will be strictly enforced! You are responsible for checking the Draws for each match and checking the venue (PHHS/YB/WG) . Selection & seeding will be top-down, utilizing the latest National Standings List.

No ice will be available, water is available at school fountains. Per USTA and SJUSD policy, please follow social distancing protocols. Facial coverings/masks are recommended. For more info on USTA COVID policy, click here .

Singles Format

Round robin, best of 3 TB sets to 6, and a 10 pt. TB if sets are split. No-Ad scoring is used as matches, in theory, should be closer and all sites do not have lights.

Draw Size : will vary, however, total number must be divisible by 4.

Selection Process

Selection will be top-down, utilizing the latest National Standing List. If you are listed as an Alternate, you will not be added to the draw unless another player withdraws. Alternates are automatically added to the draw up 8:00pm Friday evening. You will then receive a text from the USTA informing you of your new status and your card will be charged. If you are an Alternate and do not wish to remain on the waiting list, pls notify the Referee (408-590-7347 txt) and ask to be removed from the Alternate list. As an Alternate your card was not charged at the time of selection, once sucessfully added, your card will be automatically charged. Remember , if you are an alternate and can't play, you must withdraw by texting the referee 408-590-7347 and requesting a withdrawal as you are an alternate. If you don't do this, you may be added to the draw (up to 8:00pm Friday night) and automatically charged! No refunds after registration has closed-for any reason!

Seeding Info

Singles Events. That players will be seeded for singles events using the most recently published National Standings List of the division, in the order in which their names appear on the list.

Medals for 1st place finisher within each flight.

Tournament Locations (this tournee will use WG & MtP)

Piedmont Hills High School ( PHHS on draws) 1377 Piedmont Rd, San Jose, CA 95132 . Courts and parking along Ruskin Dr. You may also park in lot above the courts, entrance off Ruskin Dr. No on-court seating, bring chairs. Plenty of spots to view courts. Practice courts located at Sierramont MS, on Kimlee Dr (3 blocks away).

Mt. Pleasant High School ( MtP on draws) 1750 South White Rd., San Jose, CA 95127. Courts are located behind front of school next to the swimming pool. Please park in the closest lot to the courts. If facing school from White Rd, courts will be on left back side of schoolgrounds. No on-court seating, bring a chair. Plenty of shady viewing areas for spectators along courts. Facility lights may be used.

Willow Glen High School ( WG on draws) 2001 Cottle Ave, San Jose, CA 9512 . Courts are located off Varsity Lane (unmarked road thru the campus), entrance off Dry Creek Rd. Courts next to large gym with the parabolic white roof. Plenty of parking on campus and a few spots next to courts. On-court benches provided, off-court seating is only available in the bleachers behind courts 1 & 2. You may bring chairs to view along the fences.

Willow Glen Middle School ( WGMS on draws) 2105 Cottle Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. Willow Glen MS and HS share the same campus, courts are located at opporsite ends of the campus from each other, approx a 5 minute walk from each other. Courts are located at the end of Varsity Lane (unmarked road thru the HS/MS campus). Drive all the way to the end of Varsity Lane, when you get to the large beige metal building, courts will be on your right. Parking is available next the courts. No on-court seating. You may bring chairs to view along the fences.

The Willow Glen HS & MS share the same campus are located on opposite ends of the campus (approx 850' apart). There are tournament desks at both sites.

All courts open for warmup 30 mintues before first match. No warmup courts available once tourney begins.

Withdrawals

Withdrawals made before the end of online registration, should be initiated by yourself and as long as they are completed before the end of online reg, are completely refundable. Once online registration ends, withdraw requests must be made in writing to the referee: craig@fourdirectionstennis.net via text or email. These requests will only be honored for 3 reasons: injury, illness or personal circumstance. If your request does not meet one of these requirements, you will be subject to default and possible suspension points. If you must withdraw after the close of online registration, tournament begins, notify referee via txt: 408-590-7347 AND email your request. Do not use the 'Withdraw' function by the USTA once selection has been made (we often don't receive these messages). Phone call will likely not be answered as referee is often on the court, so texting is preferred.

Refund Policy

No refunds, for any reason, for withdrawals made after registration closes. Until the end of online registration, you must withdraw yourself from the registration page.

If tournament is canceled after registration closes, but before the actual start of the tournament, you are entitled to a full refund, minus the completely non-refundable USTA and Serve Tennis fees. The organizer is also allowed to impose an Administrative fee (FDT chooses to forgo this fee). Refund will be credited back to the card you used to register.

If you only get to play 1 match, you are eligible for a partial refund of 25%, after the mandatory USTA and Serve Tennis fees. Wins by walkover, withdrawals or default, are all considered a match, per USTA regulations.

If you play in at least 2 matches, no refund is due. Matches won by withdrawal, walkover, or default are considered as a match - per USTA.

If you would like to request a refund, please contact the Referee: craig@fourdirectionstennis.net. Serve Tennis does not allow us to charge back partial refunds. Therefore, if you are requesting a partial refund, we usually process via Zelle (No PayPal or Venmo), so let us know how you would like to receive your partial refund. Mailed refunds, payable by check, will take more processing time (up to 1 month).

Concurrent Tournament Rule

When entries close, a player cannot be entered in two or more sanctioned tournaments if any parts of the tournaments overlap, unless each Tournament Committee involved understands the situation and concurs in writing. As a matter of policy, Four Directions Tennis, routinely denies such permission . If entries for the overlapping tournaments close on different dates, approval must be received from all Tournament Committees no later than the entry closing date that occurs last. Players who enter a tournament and play it to completion, may then enter another tournament with overlapping dates without permission. A player who is on the alternate list in one tournament is not considered in violation of the Concurrent Tournament Rule if they enter another concurrent tournament; however, once a player accepts a spot in a concurrent tournament, they may not withdraw to play in another concurrent tournament without incurring suspension points for an improper withdrawal, unless they had the written authorization to do so at the time entries closed for both tournaments.

UNDERSTANDING THE DO'S & DON'TS

WATER

Make sure your child has a full water container prior to checking in.

CHECKING-IN

Players should check in to the tournament desk 15 minutes prior to each match. Players will be penalized per USTA Friend at Court rules for being late. Being 15 minutes late for the scheduled match time will result in the player being defaulted.

NO COACHING!

Once your child enters the court, NO COACHING ALLOWED! You can cheer and that's it!

MY KID IS BEING CHEATED!!

If you feel that your child is being cheated, you cannot do the following:

• Approach or speak to the opponent during or after the match

• Speak to your child during the match about them being cheated

• Speak to Referee or Official about the match in progress

• Speak to the tournament director and request an umpire

While you might feel that your child is being cheated, he or she may not. If your child thinks they are being cheated, they need to be coached prior to a USTA tournament on how to handle the situation. The best approach is to leave their racket on the court, go to the tournament desk, and request an umpire. Prior to match, parents need to instruct player to never call your opponent a 'cheater' or derogatory term to opponent, Tournament staff or Officials (Automatic code violation for Unsportsmanlike Behavior).

SCORING DISPUTE

If there is a scoring dispute between your child and his/her opponent, you are not allowed to interject. Again, your child needs to be coached prior to the tournament to go and get an official to help with the scoring issue. Parents should instruct players that calling score before the 1st service will reduce scoring issues, not to mention calling out the score is a rule and failure to do so could result in a code violation. Also, if you think the score is incorrect but your child and opponent are playing the match with no scoring disputes, you may not interject or get an official. Your child and their opponent are playing the match in good faith.

REPORT BACK TO THE TOURNAMENT DESK

After the match, win or lose, your child needs to immediately report score at the tournament desk.

BE RESPECTFUL

Remember to be respectful to all tournament staff, including the tournament director and umpires. Understand that an umpire has the right to code or penalize your child based on your disorderly conduct to any tournament staff.

End of Tournament Parent 101

RAIN INFORMATION

Please note that in the event of rain, scoring formats may be shortened to allow a tournament time to be completed.

In the event of rain on the first day, this day of the tournament will not be suspended any earlier than 12 noon. At or after that time, it is up to the discretion of the tournament director as to whether court conditions allow for the tournament to resume.

If rain continues into the second day, the tournament director must wait until at least 12 noon before they decide to cancel the remainder of the tournament.

When it rains it sometimes pours, wear a raincoat, get out of the rain and seek shelter!
