Gopher Football Home Game on Saturday, September 19th
There is a home Gopher Football game scheduled for Saturday, September 19th. There is no way to avoid playing matches on Saturday during gameday. The commute to campus will be difficult. Parking around the tennis center will be nearly impossible, and when available, at increased rates. Players/parents are encouraged to give themselves extra time on their commute to the tennis center in addition to opting to drop players off at the front door on 4th St SE to find parking elsewhere on campus and surrounding neighborhoods, and walk a longer distance. Players are encouraged to commute by car service (Uber/Lyft/Taxi)
Electronic Line Calling:
Electronic Line Calling (ELC) will be available for this tournament. The ELC installation was made possible through the generous funding and support of USTA Northern . USTA NORTHERN SELECTION GUIDELINES
Singles:
Singles selections will be based on the most recent National Standing List (updated Wednesdays)
Late entries will go to the bottom of the alternate list.
Doubles:
Players who register for singles and doubles get priority for doubles spots. Singles players selected will be selected for doubles (if they registered for doubles).
Remaining doubles spots will be awarded based on ranking.
Any player(s) remaining without a partner have until the Sunday prior to the tournament to submit a doubles partner to the TD, or they will be randomly paired.

MATCH AND DRAW FORMATS
SINGLES:
Draw Format: First Match Consolation - (if draw does not fill, TD has discretion to use a different draw type)
Scoring Format: In all age groups, all matches in the main draw & consolation will be best of 2 sets with a 10 point tie break in lieu of the 3rd set, no-ad.
3rd & 4th place match
7th/8th and 5th/8th place matches does NOT get played
DOUBLES:
You must play doubles in the same age group you play singles in – no exceptions.

Will my junior get in?
Boys' Doubles 16 & under, Boys' Singles 16 & under are full; the rest have room. Selection is by ranking list, so a junior with no ranking can still get in when a draw is not full, and goes on the alternate list when it is.
What is a Level 5?
A district-level event. Bigger draws, ranking matters for selection, points per win are higher than Level 6.
When do we know?
Selections post after entries close (Wed, Sep 9, 4:59pm CDT). Draws usually post the week of the tournament. Text Coach Ace and we will tell you the moment either one lands.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY
Exact match scheduling will be released no later than 36 hours prior to the start of play. Matches are planned to start at 4 PM on Friday, September 4th.
Player Selections
Selections will be finalized on Thursday, August 27th.
Draws are limited to the top 32 players to register. The list used for selection is the Combined National Standings List published on Wednesday, August 26th. Players not selected for singles will be placed on an ordered alternate list. Seeding will be made based on National Standings. Please review the notes below regarding alternate lists and doubles play so you can make an informed decision for yourself.
Doubles Entries
Doubles teams must be submitted to the tournament director via email by end of the day Sunday, August 30th. Doubles draws are limited to 16 teams. Doubles is single elimination and is playing an 8-game pro set no-ad scoring format. Players who are not accepted into singles and are opting to play doubles only will be charged the full entry fee. There is no discount for playing doubles only. If you are not planning on playing doubles, please email the tournament director at ozcel006@umn.edu. Registered players who do not request a specific partner will be paired randomly with another player.
Refunds
Once selections are completed, the entry fee is non-refundable.
USTA Northern Withdrawal/Defaults Policy
Due to the increase of withdrawals/defaults we have been seeing across our junior tournaments the last few months, USTA Northern's Junior Competition Committee is enacting the following policy 3/19/2024:
Effective immediately, any withdrawals that happen after entries close but before start of play will be assessed 4 suspension points regardless of reason. Any defaults that occur after play has begun will be assessed 5 suspension points regardless of reason. These suspension points may be appealed by the player within one week (by the following Sunday at 11:59 pm) of withdrawal/default when injury, illness, or personal circumstance warrants consideration. Appeal requests submitted within one week (by the following Sunday at 11:59 pm) of the withdrawal/default will be considered by a USTA Northern Appeals Committee only when…
• Proof of illness or injury can be supported by on-site tournament staff or medical professional
• Personal circumstances were unavoidable and unknown before tournament entry

TOURNAMENT DESK LOCATION
For indoor events, the tournament desk will be located behind Court 1 on the concourse level.
For outdoor events, the tournament desk will be located next to Court 11 near the courtyard area.
PRACTICE COURTS & HITTING PARTNER REQUESTS

Practice courts prior to the start of the tournament can be purchased by calling the front desk at 612-625-1433. Indoor courts are available at a public junior rate of $26 per hour + applicable sales tax on weekdays before 2 PM and $38 per hour + applicable sales tax after 2 PM and ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday. Outdoor courts are available at a public rate of $12 per hour + applicable sales tax. During the tournament, practice courts may not be available. Please check with the tournament desk when on-site to inquire if courts are available for practice and warm-up purposes.
RACQUET STRINGING
A stringer will always be on-site during business hours. We are able to turn around any racquet within 24 hours. For most requests, we are able to complete them in a couple of hours. If players provide their own string, we charge only $21 per racquet. If you require string, we carry a wide variety of synthetic string brands. PARKING
Due to the close proximity of the Baseline Tennis Center to 4 major athletic venues, parking may be at event rates (up to $10.00/car) with no in/out privileges. Metered parking is available behind the building at $1.25/hr as available. Please consider carpooling, walking a longer distance, etc. to minimize the impact of these events. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. A parking event calendar is at the link below. The calendar will show events, lots affected and times in which event parking will be enforced.

WATER, ICE, AND TOWELS
Ice will be available at the tournament desk.
Water is available at all levels of Baseline and will also be available at the tournament desk.
Baseline does not have a towel service on-site, please bring your own court towels.
OFFICIATING
The tournament intends to meet the officiating requirements mandated by USTA Northern.
The tournament desk will always be staffed to help answer questions and help with any issues on the court and will have direct communication with the tournament director as needed.

NO MEDICAL TRAINER
There will not be a trainer on site. If a player needs treatment on court, the player may designate a parent or guardian to treat them. In case of emergency, the tournament desk will call 911.
ELC Protocols - USTA Tournaments
• Number of Challenges • 3 incorrect challenges per set/player, additional one for tiebreak at 6-6
• 3 for 10pt tiebreak • If a player/team is successful in their challenge, the player/team will not lose one of their challenges
• Challenges do not carry over from one set to another
• Code Violations • An Official should consider cautioning a player/team if there have been two overrules (successful challenges) against a player/team..
• Once a player/team has two overrules in the system OR overrule markers the players must notify a roving official.
• Once an Official cautions a player that subsequent overrules will be penalized under the Point Penalty System, the Official must penalize subsequent overrules.
• If the ELC system cannot track overrules, then colored markers must be used on each court to count overrules (successful challenges) against a player. For example, If “Player A” successfully challenges “Player B” then “Player B” will have a marker placed on their side.
• Players are responsible for tracking the markers if the system cannot.
• Overrule • If player/team is overruled by an official (or the system), player/team loses the point
• Can an Official's overrule be challenged? • Yes, an official’s overrule can be challenged if the player has challenges remaining.
• The Electronic systems decision is final and not appealable.
• See the above section regarding code violations to overrules.
• Determine System Malfunction • The Referee determines if the use of the system shall be discontinued for a match
• System Unavailable • In an instance where the system is unavailable, the original call will stand and the player/team will not lose one of their challenges.
• Once the system is back online the players/team can use the system.
• Challenges • A player/team may challenge any fault or out call made by their opponent if they have challenges remaining.
• A player/team may challenge any overrule by an official if they have challenges remaining.
• System may not be used to verify calls, if a call cannot be made, it is considered in.
• Balls called out due to hitting a permanent fixture cannot be challenged.
• Challenge Denials • An official cannot initiate a challenge.
• Challenges shouldn’t be arbitrarily initiated • Officials may deny challenges if they feel a player/team is attempting to delay the game or for gamesmanship/unsportsmanship behavior
• People associated with players may not request challenges, this is considered coaching and can be penalized under the point penalty system (coaches, parents, teammates, etc).
