The USTA SoCal Barbara Estes Friendship Team Cup is an exciting and innovative ONE DAY Level 5 18s and 16s team tournament where players can make up their own teams! This is a fun opportunity for players to play with their friends! Lunch, T-shirts, and a commemorative award will be provided for all participants! We will also provide gifts for the captains.
Please keep in mind that this is a team event so expect more cheering than a normal tournament. With that said, all players and spectators need to be respectful.
Date: April 18th (both divisions will play on Saturday)
Location: All matches will be played at Marina High School (15871 Springdale St, Huntington Beach, CA 92649)
Ranking Points: Players will earn Position #1 Level 5 Team Tournament Points for each match win.

All teams on the alternate list will "disband" on Thursday, April 16th and players will become "free agents" for any team to recruit in case a player withdraws, should a player choose to join the team. This means that captains on selected teams will have the ability to select anyone from the alternate list to replace any withdrawn players from their team. They may not add any additional players - only replace withdrawn players.

Will my junior get in?
No draw is full yet. Selection is by ranking list, so a junior with no ranking can still get in when a draw is not full, and goes on the alternate list when it is.
What is a Level 5?
A district-level event. Bigger draws, ranking matters for selection, points per win are higher than Level 6.
Can we enter two divisions?
One event per player at this tournament. Pick the age group that matches your junior's birth year, or the one up if they are ready for it.
When do we know?
Selections post after entries close (Wed, Apr 8, 2:59pm PDT). Draws usually post the week of the tournament. Text Coach Ace and we will tell you the moment either one lands.

The captain's duties are including (but not limited to) the following:
• Being the liaison between the tournament staff and players on your team before and during the tournament
• Communicating all important info from the tournament to your team
• Attending the captain's meeting at 8:30 AM on your tournament date (NO PARENTS! You are old enough to handle this on your own)
• Making sure to take a team photo before start of play on day of tournament
• Submitting team lineups 15 minutes prior to each round
• Keeping track of the matches you and your teammates have played (refer to "Match Rules" below)
• Making sure your players display great sportsmanship throughout the event
Coaching: One teammate from each team may sit in between courts to coach their players ; they can switch out during the set break. If someone needs to leave (i.e. to go to the bathroom), they must do it during the changeover but no one may come back until the set break. They may coach during changeovers or say something quickly from the bench between points AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T DISRUPT FLOW OF PLAY!

Tournament Format: BG16s will play a Compass Draw (1st through 8th place finish), assuming full draws, and BG18s will play Round Robin. Both formats will guarantee 3 team matches, assuming full draws.
Match Format: World Team Tennis format (Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles, Boys Singles, Girls Singles, and Mixed Doubles). The team that wins 3 out of 5 matches will advance to the next round.
Scoring Format:
• Singles: Best of 3 short sets to 4 (7 point tiebreak at 4-4) with a 7-Point Match Tiebreak played in lieu of the 3rd set, no-ad scoring (receiver's choice).
• Doubles/Mixed Doubles: One 6 game set, tiebreak at 6-6, no-ad scoring (Doubles: receiver's choice; Mixed: gender to gender).
**Draws and match formats may be altered for cogent reasons.
INTENDED SCHEDULE OF PLAY (This may change so please be flexible - the facility has no lights so please be prepared to play early if needed!)
8:00 AM to 9:00 AM: Team Pictures and warmup (one court per team). Please make sure to take a picture once your entire team arrives
8:15 AM: Captain's Meeting (NO PARENTS PLEASE) - Draw will be made at this time.
9:00 AM: Round 1 (Gender Doubles, then Singles, then Mixed)
**Lunches available starting around 11AM (lunches for all players- please plan accordingly! We will not hold your match while we wait for you to eat!)
12:00 PM: Round 2 (Gender Doubles, then Singles, then Mixed)
3:00 PM: Round 3 (Gender Doubles, then Singles, then Mixed)
PLAYERS MAY NOT LEAVE UNTIL THEIR LAST TEAM MATCH IS FINISHED!
CIF TEAM ELIGIBILITY: Playing in this tournament will NOT impact your eligibility on your high school team.
Match Rules
• Everyone must play at least one singles match during the tournament
• Teams with 2 Boys and/or 2 Girls • Each player may play a MAXIMUM of 2 events per round (singles and gender doubles or gender doubles and mixed)
• Teams with 3 Boys and/or 3 Girls • Each player may play a MAXIMUM of 2 events per round
• Each player must play at least one event per match (i.e. one player cannot sit out in a round unless they've withdrawn from the tournament)
• Team lineups must be submitted 15 minutes prior to the start of each round • Teams may substitute only if that match hasn’t started yet and if the withdrawing player has withdrawn from the entire tournament
• Carryover penalties will be in effect (i.e. if a player receives a code violation post-match, the penalty will be applied to the other match going on, the next match/round of the same gender, or the mixed doubles match if applicable).

ntry Process : Teams shall assign ONE team captain where that person will be responsible for submitting their team roster on our JotForm . Any changes to the roster before selection will need to be communicated with Ai via email. Incomplete rosters will not be accepted. NO CHANGES TO ROSTERS AFTER ENTRIES CLOSE EXCEPT TO REPLACE A WITHDRAWN PLAYER. The entry fee is $72 PER PLAYER. Please note that every player will need to enter themselves and pay the entry fee.

Team Composition: Each team will consist of a minimum of 2 boys and 2 girls (maximum 3 boys and 3 girls - you may do 2 boys and 3 girls or 3 boys and 2 girls as well). Players will be responsible for coming up with their own teams. Players are permitted to only enter in ONE division and ONE team; however, teams may apply for two divisions (please e-mail Takamori@scta.usta.com with your first priority - you can only play in one division). All players on the team must be age eligible for both divisions in order to apply for more than one team. Changes/additions may not be made to rosters once entries close except in the event that a player drops out and another player replaces the withdrawn player.
Selection/Seeding Process:
BG16s: 7 teams will be selected by NSL based the average of the average of the boys and the average of the girls (weighted NSL). Up to one wild card per division may be awarded.
BG18s: 3 teams will be selected by NSL based the average of the average of the boys and the average of the girls (weighted NSL). Up to one wild card per division may be awarded.
• Weighted NSL = [(12+13)/2+(10+11+12)/3]/2=11.75 NOT (12+13+10+11+12)/5=11.6
Seeding will be done by weighted WTN.
